Barcelona and Real Madrid meet at Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday 25 October in the first Clásico of the 2026/27 La Liga season, with the leaders six points clear of their rivals after nine rounds.
BBC Sport lists Barcelona top of the table on 27 points, with Real Madrid third on 21. NBC Sports frames the fixture as a possible six-point swing in the title race, and the numbers back that up: a home win would stretch the gap to nine, while a Madrid victory would cut it to three.
LaLiga lists kick-off at 21:00, which is 20:00 UTC, with Juan Martínez Munuera the referee. NBC Sports gives the time as 4pm ET for viewers in the United States, and LaLiga says the match is broadcast in more than 190 countries.
A perfect start against a side already behind
Barcelona's record so far is as clean as it gets. BBC Sport records nine matches, nine wins, 39 goals scored and nine conceded. NBC Sports describes it as a perfect 9-0-0 start under Hansi Flick.
The attack has been led by Raphinha, who NBC Sports says has scored 12 goals in seven outings. That is the headline figure going into the weekend, and it sits inside a team average of better than four goals a game across the opening nine rounds.
Real Madrid, managed by José Mourinho according to NBC Sports, have also played nine. BBC Sport lists seven wins and two defeats, with 23 goals scored and nine conceded. The defensive numbers match Barcelona's exactly. The difference is at the other end, where Madrid have scored 16 fewer times.
Kylian Mbappé has led Madrid's scoring, NBC Sports reports, and he will carry much of the burden on Sunday because Vinicius Junior is suspended and cannot be selected. Going without him in the fixture that matters most is the kind of problem Mourinho will have spent the week trying to solve.
The match is scheduled after a midweek Champions League matchday, according to FC Barcelona's official preview, so it arrives at the end of a busy week for Spanish football.
History almost dead level
The corresponding fixture last season ended 2-0 to Barcelona, according to the club's official website. That result will be remembered on both benches, though a six-point gap and a suspended Vinicius make this a different contest.
The wider record could hardly be tighter. LaLiga counts 264 meetings between the clubs including the Copa de la Coronación, split 106 wins each with 52 draws. Narrow it to league Clásicos and Madrid hold a slender edge: 80 wins to Barcelona's 77 from 192 matches, with 35 draws.
The first league meeting came on 17 February 1929, LaLiga records, and finished 1-2 to Real Madrid. Nearly a century on, a single result still has the power to tilt the balance of a rivalry that has refused to settle.
